Having forgone his dynastic claims, Prince Alexander and his morganatic wife lived a quiet life.   He and his wife lived primarily at Heiligenberg Castle, near Jugenheim, in southern Hesse and were blessed with five children -

It is the irony of history that as a result of the “unacceptable” marriage of Prince Alexander for love - rather than a dynastic marriage, Battenberg descendants now are related to many of the noble and Royal Families throughout Europe - most notably the United Kingdom, Sweden and Spain.
